This week’s episode of the Channel 4 show went down to the wire
A Great Celebrity Bake Off contestant claimed she was ‘robbed’ as Kate Garraway was crowned star baker.
This week’s edition of the special series of the Channel 4 programme, which raises money for Stand Up 2 Cancer, saw four new celebrities enter the tent.
Looking to follow in Roman Kemp’s footsteps and win star baker was Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway, comedian Phil Wang, Famalam actress Gbemisola Ikumelo and Alma’s Not Normal creator Sophie Willian.
The first task saw Kate get-off to a tremendous start, wowing judges Paul Hollywood and Caroline Waldegrav with her first bake.
Creating a delicious Chai Mini Loaf Cake, Kate said it was like ‘a hug in a mug’ and you shouldn’t ‘should skimp on flavour in life’.
Receiving a Hollywood handshake from Paul, a delighted Kate stated: “Oh my God, I got a handshake! It felt like love – I think there was a moment where he had to unpeel my fingers.”
Despite getting off to a flying start, Kate struggled with the second challenge, where the celebrities had to make 12 chilli-cheese buns.
With the TV personality saying she went from ‘zero-to-hero’, Gbemisola won the second round as it was all the play for in the showstopper round.
Asked to make something that resembled their ‘hidden talents’, Chris made a bake that portrayed him with a six-pack after going to the gym this year
“The judges laughed a lot about how ripped I am, which shows how hidden this talent is,” he said.
Known for her unique comedy, Sophie created a pair of choux pastry breasts, topped with raspberry nipples, in a risqué showstopper.
“I’m still getting my head around your hidden talent being that you can carry things under your breasts,” Paul admitted.
Kate opted to make a ‘secret scuba talent’ after finding out she loved the past-time while on holiday in Jamaican in the past.
“This is really like Finding Nemo, but you’re finding filling,” Kate cheekily joked to Paul and Caroline.
Gbemisola made an impressive team of shoe netball players that was said to have an ‘excellent rise’, but it was Kate who won in the end.
Speaking after her win, Kate said: “I can’t believe it, this is the best day of my life. I’m never going to take it off, what a great experience this has been.”
Expressing her frustration at the end of the episode, Gbmisola teased Kate saying: “I actually think I was robbed. I think Kate has aprons at home.”
Caroline noted that they decided to make Kate the winner due to her bake being ‘more ambitious’ than the other contestants’.
Vowing to keep her apron on ‘forever’, the episode concluded with Kate exclaiming that no one was ‘allowed to go home’.
