Patriotic pride on display: Hundreds rally for Canada

More than 1,000 Manitobans flocked to the Legislature building to wear their Canadian pride on their sleeves — and their signs — Sunday afternoon.
Decked out in red and white jerseys, flag capes (others tied to hockey sticks) and Canadiana costumes, attendees at the Rally for Canada hosted by the provincial government said they wanted to send a message down south: Their country is not for sale.
“Today the message is that we love our country, we will defend Canada’s independence, Canada’s values and Canada’s prosperity,” Manitoba Lieutenant Governor Anita Neville said, to cheers from the crowd.

The rally kicked off with the Canadian and Ukrainian national anthems and a performance of Canadian classic songs by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, including Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
